Former National University middle blocker Jaja Santiago revealed on Instagram that she underwent an operation to remove her ovarian cysts. Pinay volleyball superstar Jaja Santiago shared with her fans on Instagram about her health scare last year when she was diagnosed with ovarian cysts.
The former National University middle blocker has just announced that her five-year stint as an Asian import of Saitama Ageo Medics in the Japan V.League team has already ended.
According to Jaja, she had to undergo an operation last December 2022.
“This season has been wrapped up! This is one of the most challenging battles I had! But I fought my battles with my family, Ageo team, and friends,” Jaja stated.
“Last December, I had an operation with the removal of 2 ovarian cysts. It was hard because I was in the middle of the season, but the Ageo management, coaches, and my teammates supported me. They didn't put pressure on me as I was recovering. STILL! I DID IT! After two weeks of break, I was able to play again. And little by little, I regain my composure and confidence,” she added.
According to mayoclinic.org, ovarian cysts are common. Most of the time, one will have little or no discomfort, and the cysts are harmless. Most cysts go away without treatment within a few months. But sometimes ovarian cysts can become twisted or burst open, which can cause serious symptoms.
Now that she is moving on with her volleyball career, Jaja also thanked the Ageo Medics management, coaches, and teammates, whom she considers as a family.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank my Ageo family, from management to coaches, to my teammates, and to all fans who supported me all the way! You have become my family. I am not where I am now without all of you. Thank you for the trust that you gave me and the confidence that I can be at my best. All my awards from this season and the previous seasons are dedicated to the All of you! Thank you!” she wrote.
“To coach @demesatraining , even though we are miles away! Still! We find ways… Thank you for putting my body strength and condition in its best form to perform well at my training and games.
“To all of you who supported me all the way! Thank you so much. My season with Ageo ended, but this is just one for the books. Onto the next!”
Before ending her post, Jaja also thanked her family for their support and her husband, Japanese coach Taka Minowa.
Based on reports, Jaja and Taka got engaged in August 2022, but it was not clear when the two tied the knot.
“Appreciation also to my family, who always support me in any decision I make. And mainly, to my husband @taka08minowa , who stays by my side, who always watches my game and gives me after-game comments. For believing, caring, and loving me,” shared Jaja.
